Explanation Mt. Bandai is a volcano at margin of Aizu basin where located in Ohu backbone range in Northeastern Japan. The name “Bandai” is originally come as the image of “the rock ladder reaches to heaven”. Southern slope of it is called “Omote Bandai” with clear konide shape, whereas the Northern slope is called “Ura Bandai” which consists of rough and huge steep scarps. The photo shows the scarp after steam eruption at 1888. The volcanic activities create the dynamic land scape such as huge cliff and the debris fields. The photo is Gosiki-numa lake and volcanic scarps that is much known as attractive scenery as a symbol of Bandai Volcanic Geopark.
